Just curious to know what line weight most of us are using. My boys and i use 2 lb and 4 lb test line. We love ultra and micro light fishing for sunnies. We fish lures 95% of time.

I use 8 lb Nanofil which has a diameter of 4 lb mono, but no stretch. I use a 15 foot leader of 6 lb Clear Blue Stren tied to this. This set up gives me increase feel and better hook set. I fish 95% bait.
One thing about line that I have found to be true with sunfish is that they are big time line shy. I have done side by side tests with high visibility line and sunfish are the most line shy fish I've ever seen. Huge reduction in bite with high vis line.
You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free

I've got three lines I use regularly for panfish. 6 lb green Nanofil, 4lb BPS Crappie Maxx camo line and 4lb and 6lb green Berkley Trilene XL. In the clear waters I like to fish, I have much more confidence in the low vis line. I can still line watch pretty good with these lines.

I use 2lbs. Sufix Nanobraid (I do have 6 lbs. Nanofil on another rod I recently acquired). I have posted several comments regarding the strength of Nanobraid including a 26" catfish two days ago that ran me into the lily pads and it took me 10 or more minutes to get it out.
My impression is there isn't likely a panfish that can break 2 lbs. Nanobraid. I think it could handle even a very large crappie, bass I know so far up to 4 lbs. and now about a 5 lbs. catfish.
It claims to be 3X as strong as others in its class, whatever that means. But, I can attest to its extraordinary strength. If snagged really badly where one has to break off a lure, it is really tough to break by pulling on it. I'd say it approaches the strength of 8 lbs. mono or fluoro.
The 2 lbs. at .001" casts a mile. This is what I'd recommend if using braid. It is available all the way up to 14 lbs. test as I recall. I think you could tow a car with that!

P-Line flouroclear 6lb for the most part. I go down to 6x in the small creeks, fish are tiny and sometimes I'm using size 18 flies. The really light stuff is a pain
Don't worry about the mule, just load the cart

My spinning rod is strung with either 4 or 6 lb. Trilene XL (xtra limp) monofilament. I tried several fluorocarbon lines but had constant issues with memory, twisting and knotting.
I usually carry 2 fly rods. One is setup with 6 lb. fluorocarbon for subsurface flies and one with 6 lb. mono for topwater flies.

Those are some fancy setups for sunfish!
I'm just now upgrading to Trilene XL.
Not trying to put anyone down, but these fish are so easy to catch, I can't see the benefit of all the fancy setups.
I think I need to go fishing with you guys to see what I'm missing out on.

I do not target sunfish however I have been following these guys a long time reading their post and reports. I can honestly say that these guys who target sunfish have got a very good thing going. I never knew what a Bluegill,Redear, etc was until I started following this forum. These guys catch some "HUGE"fish and some of the most beautiful fish I have ever seen. I have also seen some of the most beautiful water bodies on earth where these guys fish. I can honestly say that catching sunfish on ultralight rigs is one very fun sport. These guys are simply the BEST! Side Note: For catfish and white bass I use 12 and 14 pound test line! I have caught my share of sunnies while fishing for my target fish and even with larger tackle they put up a fight. I will also add that sunfish are super good eating.

Plue #1 Gitter: I do target the Sunfish on ultralight tackle. It's the best kept secret by far! Nothing beats fishing the crystal clear water of a lake, river, pond,or creek with a fighting "Sunnie" at the end of an ultralight. It just don't get any better!

I only use lures so use 4 lb Trilene to ease casting. I tried 2 lb but my eyes aren't good enough to tie knots with that.
