I'm buying a boat again after 5 years and I'd like a expert to come with me after I do the normal checks. i don't want to get burned or at least try not to. There was a guy south of Denton that helped me before( he was into crappie fishing), I'd like to use him if possible. But any real recommendation would be great.
FYI I'm in Collin County, Texas Looking for the following - 1, A deep V aluminum boat, 2. a Fish and Ski type boat, no desire for a bass boat again

Having got that far yet, I want to have someone ready so if I find it, I don't waste the sellers time

The problem with that is if it's a hot deal they were usually not hold the boat until you can get someone to come out which usually is a few days later that's always been my problem

i agree, hot deals will not wait for u to get things lined up. they get posted and are usually sold in a day or 2. when i listed my boat, i had 20 people inquire about the boat and it was sold on the third day. It didnt sell the first 2 days because people showed up not ready to buy ( financing issues, wanted to wait for mechanic, surveyor. As a seller, whoever showed up ready to buy got the boat. i didnt care if u wanted to test it or run it( i was happy to do it) but i told everyone if someone showed up ready to buy it was going to get sold. then i turned around and bought my next boat one day after it was listed on craiglist. i showed with money, my compression checker, a little mallet to knock around the hull. did a 0ne hour test run on the lake and was ready to close the deal. The morale of the story is learn a couple of basic tests u can do on your own. U are buying a used boat, there are always inherent risks involved.

I have had great success buying used boats and vehicles, but I always get them checked out by a shop that I trust. For me, the peace of mind of getting a boat checked out is worth missing out on a boat that seems like a good fit. Getting in a hurry has not suited my approach b/c I know the persistent churn in the market will give me what I want if I am patient.

What are you wanting of the expert? Motor quality? That really needs a mechanic.
