Good morning yall,
This Saturday, I'm taking my boy for his annual eye exam. He wears glasses already, but I want to get him those Transition lenses.
Usually when were out fishing, he has to take off his prescription glasses and wear sunglasses, which then he cant see much far away.
Any idea what's the average cost on them?
I'm pretty sure the vision insurance wont cover it. And if they do, it'll probably be a small bit. I have Guardian VSP.

All I know about those types of glasses are that the kids who wore them back in my day were often times the same guys who got beat up on the reg
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

When I had them, i hated them. They are not polarized (unless something new has come out). They don't work in the car. They never turned dark enough for me to even tell when they darkened, until I walked into a building and then they didn't seem to turn clear fast enough. I found myself still changing out to a pair of sunglasses when I needed sun protection.
Thumbs down from me.
Edit...get the large, ugly sunglasses that will fit over existing lens, or get clip on shades for his new glasses

I wear them daily. They are great and you can put polarization on them. The bad - they don't work in the truck so you need to buy some clip on shades. I have contacts also, but only wear them in when it rains and I'm outside.
I say go for it.

You might be able to get the prescription polarized sunglasses online much cheaper if you can get the full prescription from the eye doctor. Distance between eyes and all the other stuff.

I hated the transition lenses too. wasted my $$. I can get by with readers most days. For fishing I picked up some polarized glasses w/ reader. it was a game changer for me.

I have them and got the polorized version, think it was $50 or so and insurance didnt cover. I like them fine. True they dont work in the car. Another drawback is going inside after being outside on a bright sunny day, they are a bit slow to un-darken

Had them twice. Liked them to start but hated them before long. They take too long to transition. They get dark in the bright sunbut when you go inside you can't see anything. They are not very good sun glasses Do yourkid a favor and get a pair of glass, not plastic, clip on sunglasses. Of even the flip ups. They look stupid but work great.

I went to get my exam and then ordered them online from: eyebuy.com My wife did it for me, but it was pretty cool. You take a picture of the face that will be wearing them and you could virtually try on any of their stock. I have the rimless glasses and they are pretty good. Just make sure that your son uses proper cleaning materials or they will scratch. I had them put polarization, scratch resistant and transitions on for @ 140.00 with shipping.

Transition Lenses suck. I had a pair and they were polarized. They turned dark in office conference rooms with bright lights. I was the douche wearing sunglasses inside. Outside fishing, I always wear a hat to keep the sun off my nose and the top of my head. The hat provided shade so the sunglasses would not go very dark and the polarization would not kick on. I couldn't see the fish in a shallow stream because of all the glare coming off the water.

I have what y'all are calling transition lens and I love them. they get very dark in the full sun and clear up very rapidly when I go inside. When the time comes I will get some more. They are not cheap. I provide the frames and they are still in the neighborhood of $900 for the pair. Well worth it.

I have prescription wraparound polarized sunglasses for driving and extended outdoor use, like fishing on a boat. Also have a set of transitions glasses for routine things, like being out in the backyard.
Got mine at Costco, and I believe each set was a little over $200 without any insurance.
The comments about them not darkening enough in the car are correct.
