What's the secret to fishing around these "line shredders" ? I have lost more tackle in the last month than I have in the previous year or two. It's really bad when dragging a worm or c-rig or jig over the submerged brush where you need to be. I do check the line religiously now, but was hoping those that fish around it may know some tricks to curb this.

Well for one, use braid, at least 50 Ib. I've only fished zebra mussels once and only caught a few small ones but you definietly want to get bobber stoppers and I'd go with a mojo rig with a craw/creature bait of your choice and just barely creep it. Shakyhead would work but i wouldn't try it with braid. You can risk it if you really want to fish a shakyhead but it's going to be difficult.

So has there been a single instance in texas where we have a confirmed drop in fish numbers or quality that can be corilated to zebra muscles? If so i would love to read where it has been published
Seems like lakes that have them are as strong as they ever have been or better...
Braid with a leader, made of leader material not just line might help

It's not about quality of fishing but about them causing problems with plumbing and boats left in the lake. They get inside anything. Those are the people most affected.

Hate to hear that. I know when Ray Roberts got them there were brushpiles that were just unfishable. Lost a ton of lure in them as the price to figure out they were covered. Braid worked pretty good but would still cut.

Check your line often. They cut braid like scissors.

Go with abrasion resistant mono, iron silk is the best. They nick up fluoro pretty bad but braid is the worst, they cut it like a knife.

Got em in belton. The fish are eating these things. I find I them spit up in the livewell all the time. It seems like the smallmouth fishing just got better. I don't know if it has anything to do with zebras.

Well it's been a couple of months so I thought I would follow up. I went to Seagar Abrazx and I have not had another break off and hardly a nick on the line with many fish that it was tested on. Everything's the same except the leader which I switched to Abrazx. I give a thumbs up for Abrazx...

It's a myth , if you get hung , Get it back , check your line , zebra or not chances are it will have a nick or two some where near the bait .
