Despite all the negative news that's the way it is in most places I've been, but I haven't lived in a large urban area for a long time. But, even back in Charleston, S.C. it was pretty much like that, but that was mid-70s.

Serious question.............If its primarily derived from digital synthesis and sampling, how much actual credit for artistry should rap get for its product. lots of them are more like editors and/or producers instead of actual musicians, but then again I dont consider rap to be actual music anyway

There are some amazing lyricists . They aren't musicians per se but there is certainly talent in rap music.
