So why scale it? Who scales flavor off? I think it is an oily meat, the same as buffalo. Scale it and cut into chunks without washing it. The oil is what's going to generate the smell.

You get like zero bites with scales. The idea is to mimic a wounded fish so no scales it is. Just need to beat it till it's tenderized so the oil dispenses when in the lake.
If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

In nature scales are CONSUMED Your logic is [censored],mimic a PIECE of a wounded fish In nature there would be no "cut bait" or "piece" of wounded bait. Every good catfisherman I've spent time with scales his cut bait. I even do it with cut perch. I also cut the fins off so to make it nice and supple and oh so delectable. They will eat non-scaled bait too but not as readily. Kinda like wanting to eat a steak with the hide and hair still on. Id eat it if hungry but Id have to be damn hungry! My pics aren't near as heavy as Ricks but are definitely heavier than Catboss. Carry on fella's! Oh-
Those who dance are considered mad by those who cannot hear the music.

Give it a shot side by side bud and you'll see which gets more bites. I'd like to add my 2 pennys about hooks while we're at it. Channel cats tend to nibble more so then blues so I use J hooks rather then circles if i get one nibble.

Actually...if you can do it, a few "free floating" scales in the area of your cut bait is a great attractant as well. I try to place a few scales in the cut bait and hope they come out during the cast or when the bait lands on the water. But you for sure don't want any scales left on, especially anywhere close to the hook.
