Here's the recap of the Bass Section survey results. They were so close to last year it was crazy. For most items it was only a 1-2% change if that. Thanks to everyone who completed and congrats to Chris Boone the winner of the GoPro. Based on the survey responses this data is good within 2-3% at 95% accuracy.
43% of the respondents fish 1-5 days and 36% fish 6-10 days per month.
72% compete in bass tournaments with local tournaments leading the way at 71% followed by big bass tournaments at 36%. Only 33% have traveled out of state to compete.
Top 3 age categories are 45-54 28% followed by 35-44 22% and 55-64 18%
Over 58% of the board makes $100,000 or more annually.
90% boat ownership with Skeeter 21%, Ranger 18%, BassCat at 10% and Nitro 8% at the top. None of the remaining boat brands were above 8% and most were in the 3-4% range.
Mercury was the winner of the motor battle at 54% with Yamaha at 33% and Evinrude at 7%
MinnKota at 70% and MotorGuide at 28%
Power Pole at 28% and Talon at 11% with over 60% with no shallow water anchors at all. A lot of market opportunity here.
Lowrance at 52%, Bird at 38% and Garmin at 6%
97% tow vehicle ownership with Chevrolet 29%, Ford 29% and Dodge 15%.
Top three rods Falcon 16%, Dobyns 13%, Loomis 12%
Top three reels Shimano 33%, Lews 26%, Abu 13%
Top three bait brands Zoom 38%, Strike King 20%, Berkley 4%
Tons of social media growth with Facebook at 71% and YouTube at 41%. All others at 20% or below with Instagram and Snapchat growing.
Bassmaster was the big digital winner at 83%. Despite all the naysayers on the board almost everyone here is following BASS, FLW and/or MLF with over 58% having attended an event.
MLF, BASS and Honey Hole were the top three TV shows.
23% of the board plans to make a major boat/truck purchase in 2017
Over 86% have purchased online with Bass Pro, Cabelas, Academy and Tackle Warehouse at the top.
57% of the board hunts and 31% heads for some saltwater action at some point in the year.
There you have it gents. Thanks for participating.

This blows my mind, every tournament I fish I feel like I'm the only guy out there without them. If only they didn't cost an arm and a leg... And I bet this number goes down with the introduction of the Ultrex.

Thanks, Mark. Very interesting demos. I wonder if boat brands at the top change depending on state? I'd imagine they do.

Do you have the % of anglers under 34? I figured there would be more young guys but maybe they just dont use the forum or have an account.

And I bet this number goes down with the introduction of the Ultrex. My thought is the ultrexx and Power Poles play two significantly different roles. Ultrexx, superior spot lock for off shore fishing (power poles are useless beyond 8 foot) Power poles, superior holding ability in the shallows, where you don't want prop wash, I.e. Bed fishing. The ultrexx won't provide much vaalue here I don't anticipate PP dropping their prices in turn.

The only thing that was surprising in this for me was the fact that 66% of the respondents were 34 or older. I figured all of the Tubers would have come out in numbers for this thing. That really surprised me.

You would assume with skeeter dominating boat ownership, Yamaha would have scored higher..shows ya what azz/u/me can do to logic.. The Ultrex is a huge gamechanger IMO.. Prices on other shallow water anchors should drop... I'd much rather have the T/M over PP's ... Thanks for the data Mark..
