Went out early Sunday morning to try for some Crappie and Bluegill. The crappie bite was slow to non existent so I switched over to throwing some nightcrawler chunks to the bluegill both under a float and off the bottom. I caught a bunch of small fish and an occasional 6-8" keeper. I also saw what appeared to be a 9" bluegill get chased around a section of the docks by what had to be a plus 8 lb. bass. The bluegill finally snapped out of his stunned state and made a quick escape. I should've gotten my phone out and recorded the episode, but I was too caught up in the drama. Right as I was finishing the day, I dunked a minnow with one hand and pitched a worm to the area where that gill was getting chased with the other. Caught the two biggest fish of the day at the same time, landed the crappie first and then awkwardly landed the bluegill. Turned out I caught enough for lunch after I was complaining about how bad the day was.

Nice mess of fish. Nothing beats a combination of Crappie and Bluegill! Good job. Side Note: How deep were the fish?

Where were you fishing at? Nice mess of fish, and looks like a ton of fun.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was fishing at the marina on Joe Pool lake. The crappie was right off the bottom in about 13-15 feet of water. I caught the biggest gill hanging out under a dock, probably 4 feet down in the same 13-15 feet of water. I caught most of the gills in about 4-5 feet off of some rocks spawning. I used a number 8 tru-turn hook with split shot 10" above it for the gills and a minnow on a 1/8th pink jig head with a #2 hook for the crappie.

Thanks JigandJeep for the reply. Always love to see how deep fish are bitting on other water bodies.
