Looking for a new transom saver, my current one has the swivel things on it and the rubber on them keeps wearing out. I saw the one made by Pro Rule the other day on a fishing show but to me it looked like the motor weight would still be on the transom, are there any other ones out there?

The weight of the motor will always be on the transom, it's attached to it. Even though the older " transom savers " attach the lower unit to the trailer the transom still bears the weight of the motor. The newer style like the Pro Rule simply hold the motor in an upright position as does the older model, or it was suppose to but rarely did. The newer models are much more effective at doing their job but the motor is still attached to the transom and carries the weight. I use the Motor Mate and like how easy it is to use and is 100% effective.

Your transom can take the force from your boat going 70+ MPH, hitting waves, and everything else you put it through on the water, I think it can support the motor going down the road. Motor Mate for me as well

My old way of thinking has changed after I made a walk thru the Skeeter plant with Darby. I am not sure about others, but on a Skeeter, the jack plate is bolted to an aluminum bracket inside the transom which is directly bolted to an aluminum bracket that is glassed into the stringer. So basically, your motor on a Skeeter is not even using the transom for support.

The mount should support the weight of the the motor on the transom and the trim. Most motors 200 to 250hp weigh between 400 and 500 + lbs. That's a lot of weight bouncing freely on the transom while cruising down a bumpy road. If you can cut wear and tare in half by using the proper mount that saves your transom as well as your trim, why that's just common sense.Any support helps. Newer model mounts only protect the trim and not the transom. Brightside, most boat manufacturers have lifetime warranty on there transoms. Better safe than sorry.
