Anyone know if the Champion 1997 202 was one on Champion's good hulls?

Yes, considered one of, if not the best.

Best one there is. If ride and handling are your priorities.

I have a 1987 -18'4" Champion that had the original rough water performance hull ! She still gets me out of the roughest water to the dock safely ! I wouldn't trade her for anything. Getting ready this winter to re-power her since my old XP Evinrude 150 is aging. Bottom line is --Im glad I bought a Champion Boat grin

There's a reason that there are still so many old Champions around and they are sought after. Still to this day they are considered one of the best rough water boats on par with or above more modern boats. A company can go out of business because of poor management and business decisions even if they have a good product.

I had that exact model, the '97 202. Loved it, and kept it many years. It will not disappoint.
