I'll check this out tonight.

this ^ ^ ^

none of the homes we built in the mid 70's into the 80's had screw in copper, all soldered.

you will have to cut the wall to sweat it out/replace. washer trick first, top under the handle should unscrew, unless it is corroded bad then back to the above.

think heat would help loosen it? and yes, all the water lines are soldered copper.

PS-Don't forget to turn off the water to that line when you check for the washer

The washer is the best try. If it stops the drip, you might have to replace it more often than you want, but it is a lot better than replacing the faucet. If it doesn't screw into a fitting behind the wall, it means making a hole in the sheetrock inside the house. I've done these, and it is a real job. Most plumbers won't repair the sheetrock afterward either. Also, you might try a cone shaped washer as opposed to a flat one. I have had these stop the drip when a flat one won't because the outside of the seat inside the pipe is pitted, but the cone washer will bypass that problem.

You could always call chickenman or WAWI for your drywall needs.

Ace hardware has the graphite packing in store.
Stops water from leaking out of the handle.
Easy to fix

Most of those have a stem packing nut. Did you tighten that?

If that won't do it, many times the packing and stem can be replaced, leaving the body in place.
