A friend of the victim said that he had been drinking while handling the seemingly calm snake. But when he moved toward the reptile as if to kiss it, the snake bit him.

When my wife was working in Woodville's little community hospital they got an admit of a local man who did the same thing with a large timber rattler he had run over on US 287. He was drunk, ran over the snake, got out and picked it up and got nose to nose with it ... bit him right on the schnoz.
