I know they all do it but some are much more than others. I stopped watching Roland Martin because he pimps everything that will pay him a nickel. Yesterday, I watched Shawn Grigsby and I swear he was worse than Martin. It was like every two minutes he was pushing fishing line, hooks, lures etc. I mean it was non stop over and over. I had to put him on the no watch list. It got me to thinking, other than fishing shows, I don't notice it on anything else that I watch. Why are fishing shows such an infomercial compared to anything else?

I see a lot of the same product shilling on hunting shows as well. Maybe the cable shows don't pay as well as the networks so the producers and talent try to make up the difference with endorsements?

Because without sponsors, there would be no fishing shows. Some are worse than others, but they all do it.

Yer right. I stopped watching Roland several years ago. Dang, in between puffing his Garmin and whatever reels, he'd be constantly swigging on 5 Hour Energy drink, mugging the camera.
that's 'nuff of that.

Many years ago Roland touting a rod, how it was the best he had ever used. I thought wow, I need to get one of those because he must have a lot of experience with many different ones and he should know what he is talking about. I got one and returned it a week later to the store. That was one of the most non-sensitive rods I have ever used. It was the Fulcrum rod (weighted at the but end)supposedly to make it more sensitive. It was junk.
Every time I see a video of Shaw now I just have to laugh because he still has those big rubber boot things on the but end of every rod in the boat, even his medium light spinning rod has one on it.

This is the fallacy that most people don't understand. Small shows don't get paid. They pay to be on the network. So they have to round up sponsors to be able to afford the airtime. With that said, I do agree fishing shows are the only ones I've ever seen blatantly mention sponsors like they do.

The problem with Shaw is that you can tell that his pimping of his products is forced. What I mean is they can be having a normal conversation and all of a sudden it becomes an infomercial. All that is lacking is him turning towards a camera smiling and the editing puts a sparkle on his teeth while holding the product up.

With that said, I do agree fishing shows are the only ones I've ever seen blatantly mention sponsors like they do. This^^^ For 95% of the hunting and fishing shows the producers/promoters purchase the airtime from the networks. So that could range from $15k-$100k+ depending on the network and the number of airings/weeks etc To answer the OP's original question there's different things that sponsors/partners are looking for depending on the brand. Many are looking only for a 30 second commercial spot while others may not have a commercial, so they're looking for product integration. Most are looking for both. The biggest challenge is always having sponsors/partners that integrate authentically into the show. For many shows it comes across as forced and it's noticeable. It's no different than a pro angler walking up on stage and making sponsor mentions. Some do it with ease and it feels authentic while others seem forced and it doesn't work. At the end of the day it is what it is. Again, I'll never understand the complaints from some. We should appreciate that brands want to market to us as anglers and they pay to support tournaments, events, shows, websites, etc. Those dollars help provide the platforms that so many of you enjoy and take advantage of. The TFF being one of them. The outdoor TV business is changing dramatically as content moves off the networks and onto social/digital channels. That's happening whether anyone likes it or not, so show producers will have to continue to evolve and learn to leverage the new platforms. Viewers want shows on demand and on the device of their choice, so that's what we will have to provide. My

I got by before they were here, I'd do fine if they went away.
Like Smitty told me once...."We're only trying to catch a green fish and then we're going to let it go."

Home improvement shows are close second behind Shaw "I caught that pig on a Trokar TK42 with my Strike King Tungsten and Strike King Rage Tail" Grigsby.
I actually root for him to lose every time he's on MLF. I hope he blanks.

They don't pay me, but their gear has paid fior my hobby , via tournament winnings, including my boat and all the things I've been able to upgrade on it. So, yeah, when someone asks me what stuff I use, I don't have an issue with telling them the brands. I also don't mind offering it up on my signature.
I do "get it" though. I work for a custom shop that films everyday. I am obligated to mention the brands of certain things used in a car, if it was vendor accommodated. If it is customer "bought or owned" gear, it doesn't nessacarilly get mentioned, but likely shown.
