I just got a really good deal on an hds 9 gen 3 and 3d structurescan that I couldn't pass up. Im not so much worried about the lakes in the area that I fish as far as mapping goes. I'm more worried when I go down to the coast, I would like know more about channels and stuff. Most of the time I'm down with buddies that have grown up there and know their way around. I'm getting to where I want to go by myself and think a map card would be somewhat helpful.
Thoughts?

Yes it is worth it. Go to navionics.com and view their webapp to see the detail you will get prior to buying a card. This will let you view exactly what is on their cards for any area, even your home lakes

They aren't just for navigation. The contours really are what they are about. I'd get one even if it were an older used one. With the money

I have gotten to where if I had to choose sonar or mapping I would rather have mapping.
