We recently acquired two four week old chickens. It is currently not getting below 60 degrees overnight. At what temperature or age can we leave them outside in their coop overnight? My wife is convinced that they are too young and it is too cold to do so, so she has been putting them in a box and inside overnight.

I know that they're real good in a pot of 375° oil. That's all I have.

Baby chicks prefer temperatures just under 100 degrees. Their need for heat decreases about 5 degrees per week until they are about 10 weeks of age. I'd put them in the shop at night and put a light on a corner of their coop.

Yeah they need a light on them in an enclosed area at this age. Personally I wouldn't have them inside my home but maybe in the shop or garage.

Typically they would have a hen to keep them warm, that is not the case here so we must provide heat for them.

They need a heat light at very least in that coop. Once they feather out they will be fine on their own
