Anyone waded the Pedernales from one of the bridges near Stonewall before? Any comments on parking, accessibility, and fish? Never fished one of the hill country streams before. Any fly recommendations for small bass, carp, or sunfish? Thanks for any help.

Matt

I was just at the LBJ State Park a few weeks ago and caught a few bass and quite a few sunfish on an olive wooly bugger. I was wading at the foot of one of the dams. Easy access and no entrance fees.

Kevin Hutchison would agree with 1960Texan's assessment in Fly Fishing the Texas Hill Country. Tracing the Pedernales, he moves from Fredericksburg straight to LBJ State Park, which makes me think most other spots between are either posted or not worth it.

Only other thing I would add is that the short drive up to Pedernales Falls State Park may be worth it if you haven't been there before. It's one of my favorite places to fish, the river's narrow there, it's easily wadeable and there are lots of species to target along with some monster carp.

Thanks. I'm going to have to get a copy of that book.

Fished that area a couple of weeks ago. Did well on Bluegill and bass. Water was stained in some areas. Fish were active between 8am and noon. Bite slowed down after that. thumb

Love fishing the Perdernales in the Stone Wall area. cheers
