Hit one of my favorite spots the other day with my ultralight gear. Big bass was caught on a small topwater popper. The others took a small one gram ajing jig with pink plastic. in all I caught freshwater drum, spotted gar, largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, bowfin, and a channel cat. Great day!

I have found that in clear water, just like when I flyfish, feeding carp ware willing biters on small lures. Great fun. Sight fishing the feeders with the tiny jigs was very rewarding.

Fishwfly,
So, adjusting mentally for a pound for pound comparison, how would you rank each species regarding fighting power?
That is a very diverse bag!

Brad Interesting thought Brad. Bass give an exciting fight with the leaping ability and pulling power. The carp take longer to tire. Seems like once they are getting close they figure it out and it's pulling drag again. Drum fight hard ,but tend to spin. Catfish pulls, and dives. Spotted gar don't fight long, but I have rarely hooked one that doesn't leap like a flopping tarpon. Fun! Bowfin offer an exciting fight full of spunk and tend to jump in close. They are Head thrashers and with the teeth will flat tear up some lures. Lol. In all it also depends on the health of the fish, I have caught slouchy fighters of all species. For this trip considering size and fight I'll rank them as such; 1. Carp 2. Bass 3. Catfish/bowfin 4. Drum 5. Gar
