I call BS on the $20 or less. I had sticker shock when a place in SA said $75 to certify mine so I checked around. The permit from the state cost $35 and although it doesn't have to be NTEP,most places won't attempt to certify it if it isnt. Should it come back on them, the fine is too big to risk. whip Similar to those hot rod race cars that aren't road worthy yet some how get an inspection sticker.

They don't have to have a permit for TPWD. They have to write the model number of the scale and a note saying that it was certified to be accurate. That's it. I'll call your BS too. Gary Kincaid Scale in Forney certifies them for free for fisherman. Mail them to him with return postage in the box and he will send them back with a note that you send to TPWD. I have certified over 20 lake records in the last few years.

It's getting a tad hostile. TPWD has nothing to do with certifying scales. Texas department of agriculture does. The form that the scale company summits to them is REM-700 along with $35. I'll leave it at that, you get last words cheers
Ps,I didn't know that TPWD doesn't require the scale to be certified, just a letter of confirmation that it could be is enough. Never read that or heard anyone doing that. If it works then great. slinger that info would save people lot of money and maybe get more people interested in summiting records. thumb

Here's what I got back from TPWD:

Subject: Having a debate on certified scales

Hello, what is required? A scale being officially certified with a sticker from Texas Dept of Ag,international fish organization, or a completed piece of paper from a scale company saying that the scale has passed testing and is accurate but no sticker from either organizations issued?
Thanks,Chris

Response:
You can get it certified by a scale company, and as long as you have a document that says who and when, you should be OK.

Thanks Jerry for your info. Have not been on the lake in Months, but one day I will feel better, praying that My next surgery on Wednesday will be the last...then have 6 weeks for recovery. Have plenty of time to purchase a scale. Trust all is well with you.

Happy Easter.
