OK guys do you think Houston and the state of TX got enough out of this weekend to put up the money for more Classics. I know the staff liked having the downtown venues close

It seems BASS likes going to more rural areas.

I think Houston was a good place for it.

I don't see Dallas every hosting one, there agenda is more about promoting it as a Sanctuary City.

I read an outstanding article last week about selection of venues for Classics. Explained why there will never be one on Rayburn or Toledo Bend. Can't find it right now but I'll try. The article answered all the questions we Texans always have regarding the subject. And it's not about whoever will pay BASS. It's more about lodging, facilities, central locations and things to do in the host city.

Yesterday in Houston we had the Classic, a Rockets game and the final day of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo closed out by the Zac Brown band. The Classic, Expo and Rockets game plus the fancy hotels and dining needed for the event were all within walking distance.

Houston showed out considering everything that was going on. Minute Maid was cool for the weigh in with the train running for big bass and lead changes. George R Brown worked well for the expo. Conroe is just a tough lake to fish! I hope to see the Classic back in Houston soon!

I thought it was pretty stupid of Houston to hold it downtown and not do something to really help participating anglers get downtown without having to navigate I-45. Something as simple as opening the HOV lane only for competitors would have really helped those guys. I saw Jordon Lee pulling his rig through traffic on my way to Hobby to pick my wife up at the airport. Little did I know that he would win it all.

The classic was awesome in Minute Maid and expo at GRB. However there are to other lakes that fish better (more consistent) than Conroe. They held the high and college tournaments at 1 of them. Yep. Good old lake Houston. It's big enough and doesn't turn into the gulf with just a puff of a breeze. Then we have Livingston. I remember back in the 80's and 90's bass use to hold tournaments there (think twice). But I guess it might be about the money cause Conroe definitely has it over there.

I was in one of the angler's boats for practice day and he said Dallas may be getting the Classic soon. What he told me is they are trying to move closer to bigger cities and have stadium a atmosphere. I thought the expo at GRB was great plenty of room to walk around and look at things and able to meet anglers get pics/autographs, Sat and Sun there was a lot of people at the expo. Sunday weigh in the whole 3rd base side was packed and they had people on the 2nd level and it seemed pretty full except closer to the foul line. I can't speak for other kids but I know my son had a blast he met Rick Clunn, Gary Yamamoto, Casey Ashley and a ton of other anglers and legends of the sport, he is know hooked on fishing he learned about all sorts of baits, boats, rods, reels and everything else the have at the expo. We had a great experience and hope it returns to Houston in the future and I'll have to say several anglers through out the weekend were talking about the respect that the crowds on Lake Conroe gave all weekend.

All in all I think the Classic was a success for BASS and for Houston as a host. The facts are that they aren't making decisions based on many of the things that anglers complain about here. There's so much that goes on behind the scenes for BASS related to host location choices and while host money is a major factor, there's more involved. This major market move was a big step for BASS and there were some challenges for their team but overall I'm sure they're seeing this as a big win and as always this will open some business development opportunities in larger markets across the southeast. I also believe that this will open up other Texas opportunities.

But as Fouz said, our more rural areas will have a tough time even if they have the money, simply because they lack the required facilities and infrastructure to host an event like the Classic. Most people start the conversation by discussing the host lake and that's much farther down the list for BASS and their partners related to site selection.

Sure had a blast in Houston and the facilities were top notch. Hope they make it back again.

I am not sure on this, I fished that lake for almost five years.
You can have everything else but first you need both water and fish.

I think if the Classic comes to North Texas it will be in Arlington or in Fort Worth. I don't see them spreading out the venues across the metroplex. While it would great to have weigh in at the AAC adn the expo at the convention center, I don't think it's something Dallas would bid on. I do see if for Arlington and Jerry's World. Lots of entertainment in Arlington.

I would also love for Tyler to host it. Just not sure of the facilities. Lots of great lakes with in driving distance there.

I am not a DFW guy but I'd think Ray Roberts or even Hubbard would be plenty close to convention and stadium facilities. Please though, not another in Pittsburg on the Ohio R..

Would BASS consider moving it to later in the year to fit more northern climes?
