GRAPEVINE LAKE BEWARE - I have been robbed of all my tackle and a decent rod/ reel set up from Scott's Landing. Cameras do not show anyone walking out of the gate with it but there are no cameras on the slips located at the rocking dock..meaning a fisherman has broken the "bond" and stolen from another by coming in via the water and breaking in my locker. What kind of person does this to another fisherman knowing good and well when they saw some of the lures from the 70's in there that those probably were "special"..those belonged to my step dad and the guy who taught me the sport that is no longer on this earth. I got a question, why do people think that they can sneak in or pull their boat into an empty slip knowing that they are not members of Scott's and crappie fish? I was raised better than to mooch off those that pay and I mean pay allot when it is all said in done to have a slip, boat payment, insurance - this is not a cheap deal folks so what gives you the right to just come on in like you own the damn place? And the answer is NO for any of you thinking that maybe another member might have done this because we have all known each other for years and out of 20 slips in there only a few of us even fish. I guess i got to comfortable with leaving my tackle behind but it is a damn shame to say the least!! Let this be of notice if you are on THE VINE - WE HAVE SOME REAL JACKWAGONS ON THE LAKE NOW!

I do sympathize with you. Unfortunately, there are thieves everywhere. It doesn't very many bad people like that to screw things up for the rest of us.

Yep back in the early 70's my grandpa bought a lakefront place on Livingston. He for years he would keep all his tackle in the boat and everyone else did as well. I was a very tight community. Then about the mid 80's stuff started coming up missing and by the late 80's no one could leave anything in their boats any more. It sucks that it has come to that, but it's been going on for a long time now. If you leave anything of value in the boat don't expect it to be there in the morning. It's so bad in some places I put my tackle in the truck if we go in some place to eat and I can't see the boat.
Sorry for the loss.
John

Boat ramps, boat storage facilities, and marina tend to draw thieves.............

Same thing happened to me about 15 years ago on The Vine. I had an old tackle box that was my bank fishing box with lures I had since I was a kid. Some sleezebag stole it when my back was turned 25 feet from where I was fishing. No amount of money can replace the memories contained in that box and the tackle.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

I had my tackle stolen from my boat while attending a work get together/picnic at the bank presidents ranch outside of Emory years ago. We had to park our vehicle and boats in the hayfield (cut of course) as you enter his property, then walk around a treeline to the house and tank area so they were out of sight. Left and went to Lake Fork with plans to fish the rest of the weekend but all my tackle was gone out of the boat. My wife put out fliers and passed the word around the office to see if anyone would come clean or provide information but nobody seemed to know anything. The next year we went to the same company picnic. I didn't take anything this time. Was walking around the tank while other were fishing and found 2 of my tackle boxes, lol. Apparently some kid stole them the prior year. I talked to the parents but it didn't get me anywhere, even though they had no idea how the kid came up with the tackle since the Dad didn't even fish. Rather than start an argument, I moved on since I couldn't definitively prove anything (didn't have my name on anything, including the boxes or rods/reels). Lesson learned.

That has been going on for a long time, and I highly doubt it was a fellow fisherman. Thieves can paddle into a boat house unseen and steal whatever they want. Where they get caught is the marina has their own security and the thieves use a flashlight which gives them away to the security folks.

Thieves come in all shapes and sizes but I really doubt it was a fisherman. It might be kids like in Scott's post or it could be worthless local meth heads.

Sorry to hear that. I had all mine stolen while in college. They broke the lock on my trucks toolbox. Took a long time to reload.

Sorry for your loss. I will blame Kayaks, none of this happened before Kayaks. It's all their fault.

12' long john boat could make these stealth boat house visits too. This was happening long before kayaks were popular.

You're wrong. No one was cruising the canals and boat slips in a dang Jon boat. Theft at the coast sky rocketed with the popularity of Kayaks. In and out with out a sound.

Actually I have. Saw one on my way to Lake Palestine just a couple of days ago. Took picture but it didn't come out very well as I was in car and it was very early in morning and foggy. I know where it hangs out though and should have a better pic soon. Be on the lookout when you get near Frankston.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.
