Ive got some milo souring as we speak never used it thinking about trying it on Aquila! My question is where do you determine what is a good site and what to use as actual bait?

I've never used chum before so take my advice with a grain of salt. From what I've seen, a lot of the people who bait holes use punch bait when fishing those baited holes. Stubby's seems to be pretty famous on the TFF

Does it ever get to a point where its just goo that isn't "spreadable"?

I'm asking because I don't want to make a big batch and not use it fast enough.
Just keep water over it that's all you have to do.

I've been curious about this too, what kind of structure do you target to chum?

In the spring and summer as the water warms, cats move around a lot, hunting food. These times of the year, channels can be found most anywhere, 35'in a creek channel or as shallow as a foot or so on a shoreline flat. You just have to pitch out some chum and wait a little while. If they are in the area, they will find it. If you don't get a bite in 15-20 minutes, move on. Or better yet, as mentioned above, bait several spots and reverse fish them. When, over time, you find spots that are usually productive, bait them as often as you can. The cats will keep coming. This being said, there are days when they are just not around or not biting at a previously good spot. That's fishing. Just move to another baited spot.
Great channel lakes like Fork have cats almost everywhere. Chum and they will come.
Use range cubes if you do not want to fool with soured milo. That's all some very good cat guys use and they do great. Sometimes I use both cubes and milo. As mentioned, milo never goes bad. Just keep enough water over it. I think the worse it smells, the better the cats like it. I have use some that was 3-4 years old and it worked great. I always have a few 5 gallon pails of it around.

I make mine in a 5 gal bucket, yet transfer that to several 1 gal 1ltr Tea jugs the ones with a Wide mouth. these are easy to dump without playing in it lol. buddy uses a 1 gal bucket with lid and then spoons it (Throw) around the area.

If you get range cubes keep them in a sealed container. I kept a bag in my balcony closet and squirrels chewed a very good size hole at the bottom of the door to be able to get in and steal them. They haven't touched them in the plastic tub.

Ok, I have a few more questions about this topic, specifically about range cubes. So it's been stated, it's best to bait several holes and cycle through them fishing one after the other.

For the purpose of these questions, the spot I have in mind is shoreline covered in rocks/rip rap that is about a mile long.

Question #1 - how much of my 50lbs bag of range cubes should I throw out in one "spot"? 10lbs?

Question #2 - do you throw it all out in one concentrateday pile? Or spread it out across that area evenly?

Question #3 - how far apart along this shoreline should each baited hole be? Every 100 yards? Should I spread all 50 lbs evenly down the whole stretch of rip rap?

If it needs to last more than 2 hours use some sort of mesh bag and throw that out, attached to something of course so you can retrieve it when done. It'll keep them longer while still putting out smell. You don't need more than a few handfuls per spot, softball to volleyball size amount. Pick the best looking spot/spots (where there is a point, a fallen tree, change in size of boulder, etc and throw them out there.

Thanks for the info.

But what about along a rip rap shore? There is no discernable structure like trees to target. It's a straight shore alongside a road.

Some of those laundry mesh bags for cheap at the dollar Store. Fill them about half full. The cubes will swell in the water and fill the bag full. A bag of cubes will last a week at least. Bait several likely spots and when you go back to fish them throw out a few cups of soured wheat. Catfish train easily to stay near a baited site as long as its a place with structure, rocks, logs, gravel, weeds etc.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Riprap look for anything like I said, tiny tiny change in angle makes a point, change in rock size, etc. If not then just pick however many spots you want to and put it out there. Is there deeper water on one end and shallower on the other? Etc...
