Hey guys I need opinions. I'm looking to get either the Native slayer 12 pro or the Old Town predator MX, I've watched many youtube videos and am fully aware of the specs of both boats. I still am on the fence about which one to get. I have no way to demo either one so that's not an option for me I just wanted to know what ya'll think would be the overall better choice. I'm 6'2 230lbs and fish mainly rivers and smaller lakes. I want a good combination of stability and tracking.
Thanks

I noticed you posted a couple days ago and haven't gotten any reply so I'll give you my opinion since you asked for them.
You are pretty much left with looking at the reviews, Youtube, and what others have to say, and both kayaks you named do have good reviews.
There again, you have to go by what others say not being able to test for yourself, and what may seem straight tracking and stable to one individual will not always feel the same to everyone.
That said, All the kayaks I've owned were other models than what you named, but all track or tracked straight without a rudder.
I watched a guy the other day and he couldn't paddle his kayak in a straight line at all and had to correct his zig zag path by paddling several strokes on one side and then the other, and couldn't keep that kayak going in a straight line for even a few feet without it wanting to turn from one side or the other.
His kayak was billed as a stable, high seat, low seat, fishing kayak on the lower end price range.
If you can find a lake that is popular with kayakers, you will probably meet up with someone who has a kayak that you mentioned and you can observe or talk to the person, and they will often let you test paddle one.
If not, you pretty much will have to roll the dice and go by the reviews.

I don't have either of these models but do spend all of my time on the water in rivers and creeks. For that environment, you commonly don't have direct access to the water and have to drag yak and gear between pools. Accordingly, I would pick the lighter of your 2 choices.

I had a Slayer pro. I sold it & bought the MX after paddling one. IMO, the MX is a more stable boat & a faster boat. I know fast is relative in these boats. To me it was no comparison. I like the MX a lot better. I could stand in the MX immediately & feel comfortable. Both are great boats, the MX just fit me better. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

There are many factors that come into play when it comes down to deciding on a kayak.

What kind of waterways will you be fishing?
How will you be transporting the kayak?
How will you be storing the kayak?
Your age and activity/strength level?
What kind of fishing do you mainly do?
Do you think you will want to stand and fish?
Do you think you will be fishing in moving water?

All of these questions need to be answered in order to get some reliable and honest feedback.

I really like the looks of the Old Town predator MX. Old Town has came a long way in a short period of time. Try to spend sometime in both kayaks to see what "feels" better to you. Austin kayak sells the Old Town kayaks and offer demos for free. For me it would be worth the drive to drive to a dealers location and try the two kayaks out first hand. Be careful to find the kayak that is good for you and not one that the salesmen/pro staffer is trying to push. Good luck!

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
