I think it is safe to say that the winter tides are gone for the year. The tide has really come in changing things quite a bit. We are still getting them but are having to adapt to the new conditions. The reds are packed in the lakes and around creeks leading into the lakes on the tide changes. Drum can be found on hard sand in 2-4' of water.

@v-bottom, next winter. Think he was referring to the strongest of the winter tides, not all of them.

I would rather die finding out there was no God than die finding out there is.

Just a guess. Along with the moon, the sun also has a gravitational pull on the earth also. During the winter the earth is tilted away from the sun causing the water to be pulled toward the equator which in turn causes a very low tide. Just the opposite affect in South America. During the summer time the earth is tilted toward the sun which will cause the water to be pulled more toward the north of the equator. Again, it would be a very low tide in South America. The moon does affect the tides all year long and is more noticeable from month to month. But the suns gravitational pull on the other hand is slow, so this is why we have a very low tide in the winter and a higher tide in the summertime. Just a guess is all.

That has something to do with it. The persistent northerly winds have a big impact. They blow the water out of the bays and along with other factors cause the really low tides.
