Anyone have any advice for building a raised bed garden out of cinder block? If so could you post some pictures? Thanks

I don't have any pics but I've thought about doing this .

I would level the plot , put a layer of fabric down then start assembling the blocks . Support the framework by driving wooden stakes / rebar through the holes in order to keep the blocks from shifting . You could also fill 'em with gravel or quik-crete ; depends on how permanent the installation will be .

Unless you mortar all the blocks together I'd then line the interior with fabric to keep the soil from washing out of the cracks .

I'd try a small bed as a test run before going all out . Concrete will hold a lot of heat . That's great for the cooler season but you'd probably need to provide some shade during the summer .

There's a few videos on YouTube on how to build it, pretty simple.

However, I've read that if youre planning to grow fruits/herbs/vegetables, Cinder block is not recommended since they emit some chemical??
It says to use Cedar 2x12s instead?

Not sure if there's any truth to it.

You can use cinder block, but use inside a plastic or rubber liner inside.

I was thinking about using something like liquid nail instead of mortor. Maybe Flex Seal to paint the inside of the block. Do you see any concerns with going that route?

Thanks

use 2x12s a lot of wasted space with the width of all those blocks.

I built a small one for my rosemary and it seems to like it(last year). Just stacked blocks to each other.

I just made one for a potato garden(morning sun, afternoon shade)....I really am late getting it going...but oh is life.

I'm just not sure what to fill it with....I can get free city mulch/compost....or make my own for a $.

Got taters about to spout in the box that need in the dirt this week!!

BTW these are OLD blocks from grandmas house. I doubt I have any leaching issues out of these old blocks.

You can grow inside those holes. I've done smaller plants like mint and herbs. Fill it up with soil and the plant roots eventually grow to the ground.
