I went to Firewheel today for my first every sandy trip this evening. I had a 1/16 jig head with some minnow like fluke around 2-2.5". The bite was slow but people all around me where catching a few. Looked like more small crappie than whites. Other than the live minnow guys what was i doing wrong. I didnt even get a bite.

It's ok bro, just gotta find out where the holes are. U may have not been in the right spot or maybe u were they just weren't biting. Sometimes u gotta move around around til u find them. Trust me.

The best advice I can give is to use 6lb line or lighter and fish your baits on the bottom. This is the two biggest mistakes I see people make on the creek.

yea it was frustrating watching people around me catching. I think maybe the problem with south of firewheel road bridge is its deeper and my 1/16 was really never making it to the bottom. I was stunned by the amount of trash and garbage is all around there. I am a small town northeast trout and smallmouth fisherman and the streams are so clean and when there is garbage people pick it up. It was really just nasty right there.

Where are some of the spots on RC where you can wade into the water. I see pics on here of that but that area south of the firewheel bride has steep banks.

Stick with rowlett creek. My best advice is 4lb fluorocarbon, and get away from the people.

Don't have to use flourocarbon when fishing that light of line. Winter and early spring I prefer mono bc it floats and my jigs have a slower sink rate so I can work them suuuuuper slow bc sometimes they want it like that. Besides, when the creek is muddy like it is now, you can tie on straight braid and itll be alright. Just make sure u use darker colored jigs when the water is murky. I'll be peeing in the water up creek to try and clear it up for you and warm up the water temps quicker.

My only advice would be to change up your baits and move around more. Attempt to get 50-100 yards from the closest fishermen. Try different approaches. Be confident.

Honestly, I have caught whites on a twister tail grub on 15-20 lbs line or even on rattle traps. Nothing fancy. They were just my confident baits at the time and they hit it.

Great advise right here! As stated above you do not have to have 4 lb line in order to catch fish out there. I have a video from out there last year were I was catching them with 8 pound hi-vis blue line. One of the most important things out there is to move around. The fish will bite within the first few casts if they are in that pocket. If they don't, move. Eventually, you will find them.
