Let's see if this thread takes flight....I'm trying to expand my family's (wife and 15 year old daughter) crappie catching locale, we are limited on our travels from Waco. We have always wanted to fish this lake, just haven't been able to do so, but hoping that will change soon. Thank you, in advance, for any and all information...

We went a couple of days this week. Bite is slow, but managed a few each trip. One fellow had around 10 or 12 but said he'd been there for six hours or so.

park ranger told me they catching them up ash creek as of thursday . Which park ranger...one of those park rangers, has been known to spin a yarn...and it ALWAYS involves ASH Creek! Lol. And the yarn goes something like this...6 fish in the boat...fisherman said they tried ash creek, but moved elsewhwere to pick up some fish...6 fish turn into a limit...then one limit turns into several , all from ash creek...guy is a hoot to visit with...but he will have you running all over the lake, for no good reason...Now if Keith Speer told me the fish were biting in ash creek...I would be there in two hours, with plans to stay all night!

Starting to pick up at Marina, fair to good. Between Wife and I, we caught about 12 keepers and other smaller ones in mid afternoon. Off brush, deepest 8 feet, shallowest 18 inches on Mr. Crappie, shadpoles in Smokey Shad color. They say they bit better in early AM, but we were pretty happy with the afternoon we spent there. If it's going to bust open, it shouldn't be too much longer.

Last two weeks I have graphed crappie point numerous times...no fish...all the fish were 50 feet away (at least) suspended and mostly under shad. Now, the fact that JWfish caught a dozen at the marina tells me a few are starting to move up shallower, probably not in the creeks yet so much, but maybe in the 8-12' range, in numbers. Still a bit early for NM. But hey, any day fishing is a good day!

Went out lake testing a boat over at NM...tried a few of my shallow spots...nada...went to the marina and sat for five-ten minutes...saw a few get caught...but there were a bunch of folks fishing, and not many catching...one of the guys said there were some being caught at the culvert, but he didn't say when...I am guessing before the cool spell...saw some guy catch a catfish from crappie point...anyway still a bit early...I am guessing at the next full moon...it will be on fire...

No electronics and no thermostat handy...sorry
But I walked a couple creeks on Monday, just to check...paths were worn bare...all day netted a couple keepers...visited with a few fishermen, that said I was a week too late, fish were in last week real good then they moved back out with the cold front...oh well....it happens!
