went fishing a couple of days ago and got my little crankbait snagged across the river. so i tightened my drag and pulled until the line (30# braid) went SNAP!

my delema begins, when i began to reel the slack line, the reel was hard to crank. that day i lost my gary yamamoto chikara shad color and maybe my $20 rod & reel combo. the rod not so much if ya know what i mean.

by the way, it's a 6'6" shakespeare cirrus rod and reel combo. i know its a cheapy but it was my favorite spinning reel i have. frown

should i by another reel or attempt to fix it? any ideas?

thanks smile

Tear it down and back again, won't lose much. I love overhauling spinning reels. makes my brain work. Take pics as you go and make notes. I think its fun. Just did another of my dad's from like 1975. old green Penn spinfisher. What a mess, all full of salt and sand but they had good guts. Runs like a sewing machine now.

You might try just popping off the spool and go through the drag, might get by without having to get into the gear box. If going through the drag didn't work try mildly tapping the drive shaft back down towards the reel with something like the hard plastic handle of a screwdriver, that might get the pinion pushed back in place, worth a try.

Oh,,, did you get all the screws out?? and plate didn't come off,,, hold the spool and unscrew the reel handle,, right or left depending on which side it is currently on now... yes it's only a few bucks but something to do when bored.

At $20 for the combo it would not be worth anyones time of tearing it down and trying to fix. Unless your time is cheap. Mine isnt...

Also if you want to avoid this in the future find a stick or something similar to wrap the line around and then pull on the line with that instead of your reel. Especially with braid. You are just asking for something in the reel or rod to break doing it that way.
