I am looking at used boats and was wondering how many hours on a engine before you would not consider buying the boat?

2013 with 238 hours on motor

238 hours for a 2013 is not bad at all. average hours 100 to 125 hours a year. I would think I put at least 150 hours a year on mine. Most motors should take 1500 hours I think. Mo mechanic here but what I think.

I would not worry about hours unless the past history of the engine had lots of problems.

Get a history print out on the engine.

Mercury Pro XS is a great engine.

Spark plugs at 200 hours I would probably change them for better performance.

I put about 250 hours a year on one and have had only small issues for the most part an not many. Run good gas and oil.Service regularly.

Take it to an authorized mercury dealer (you being in Dallas) Rockwall marine would be the best place and have them check out the motor for you. They can hook up the DDT and then you can know exactly what the history is of the motor. It couldn't hurt to get a price on a tune up and a water pump. Two things I'd highly recommend on buy a used boat.

I learned the hard way when I bought a used boat...
