Bought a new boat out of state, and I've searched online but it seems unclear where I register my boat trailer. I live in the DFW area. Any help would be great, thanks.

You register your boat through the Texas Park & Wildlife. Register your trailer through the regular DMV like you do your vehicle. Do you research about needing an inspection on your trailer. If it's gross GVWR is 4501 or greater, then you'll need to have it inspected prior to registration.

You'll need a bill of sale also for the traile with the trailers price listed separately. I purchased a boat out of state last summer and have registered a lot of trailers. The state I bought from didn't register boat trailers but I had a bill of sale and I had no issues getting tags for the trailer.

I just did this last week , pain in [censored] . First off , if the state dosent have the weight of the trailer written on the title you have to go to a certified weight scale and get the certificate . Second, any trailer coming from out of state has to have a inspection done . This process is government at its finest

Brad - did you take yours to the scale empty (no boat)?
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

My local office also rounded up the weight on a trailer which I had never heard of. I got in to an argument over this and asked to see where this was written to round up but it was a total waste of time on my part, can't argue and win with these people.

No I asked her " how am I supposed to get a weight when my boat lives on my trailer"? She said to dump it in the lake and take it . I laughed at her . I borrowed a buddies car hauler and got a weight slip . They don't put anything on the cert but the weight .

Went through this nightmare last year at this time. I received a notice that I needed to have my trailer inspected before I could get it registered. This after 6 years of registering it with no inspection necessary. When I presented the paperwork at the courthouse, the "fine lady" asked me for my inspection papers because it was not written on the document. I told her it was a boat and that the total weight was 4400 lbs and she literally laughed at me. "I need proof honey" were her exact words. So I asked her if a photo would work and she said "just make sure it has the trailer serial # on it". So I left, took a picture of the placard on the side of the trailer (keep in mind the placard has all the relevant information for that trailer, including the serial #) When I go back the next day, the "nice lady" was not there. Someone other "nice lady" helped me and once again "laughed at me" when I presented the photo to proof the trailer was rated for 4400 lbs. "Sir, I need a title or bill of sale that states this, that photo you have could be of any boat trailer". I told her the serial # is right there in the photo!!! She laughed even harder. I was livid!!
I eventually got it done, but it took 3 trips to satisfy those folks.
Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.
