I screwed around with shop vacs for years. 2 years ago I bought a used Jet 1 1/2 hp dust collector for about $200. Probably collects about 10X as well as anything I'd done previously. Takes up a fair amount of space, but I think it's well worth it. Read up on the health risks of small particle sawdust.

Did anyone try the dust deputy system before buying a full blown dust collector system?

find a 55 gallon drum, 10 dollars or free. Get a shop vac on graigslist about 30 bucks . Then make the equivalent of what is in hops link. If your really feeling froggy add this. https://www.amazon.com/DGC-PRODUCTS-IS11...4RQZET7MTC47E4N

Just an FYI. Picked up the Harbor Freight dust collector. Wow! Shoulda done this a long time ago. Very little airborne dust.

Good decision. I thought the same thing after getting mine. That came after I spent 20 years trying to find a cheap solution .

Good decision. I thought the same thing after getting mine. That came after I spent 20 years trying to find a cheap solution . And to be honest, it really wasn't that expensive. I only paid $173 after coupons. I have more than that in two shop vacs. I wonder if I can run a dust deputy along with this?

Not sure why you'd want to do that. Seems like you'd have to empty it a lot more often. I may be missing something here.

My understanding is that it protects your impeller from the larger chunks.

I just use all my woodworking machines outside. Point the discharge downwind and no issues.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

Give us a review on this if you buy it. I have been looking at them lately myself. I hate walking in my garage (that's where I have to do my woodworking) and everything being covered in sawdust.

The Dust Deputy is a great piece of equipment. I have one in front of my Ridged shop vac and have emptied the shop vac once in 8 years. The dust Deputy catches all but the fine dust. It keeps large chips from hitting the shop vac. I have to empty the Dust Deputy every few weeks.
Snowflakes and entitled brats will be the doom of America!
