Ok Indian65- its on.

This is a challenge to all fiTFFers! --My new name for us fitness minded TFFers.
Post a video swimming in an outdoor unheated pool for as long as you can stand it. The one with longest time in gets fiTFFer of the month award which consists of nothing more than the typical ridicule....err...recognition from fellow OTers. But you will get total respect!! Maybe.

All others will simply have TSD syndrome. GO!

Disclaimer- the shock of extremely cold water can have adverse affects on body including but not limited to TSD syndrome and death. You do this at your own risk.

I'm probably out on this challenge lol.

On a semi related note, when I was younger probably 15 years ago we were fishing on Nocona, New Years day, when out of a cove comes a really nice ski boat pulling this guy slaloming in blue jeans and a leather bomber jacket. Still to this day, probably the best skier I've ever seen, he'd pull himself up to the back of the boat, let all the line go slack, and right when he was about to go under it'd hit and there he'd go again. Eventually he pulled himself all the way back then did a front roll of sorts into the back of the boat. It was glass that day and that goober skied the entire perimeter of the lake. That's what I want to see someone do!

Me too. This may be interesting. I just talked myself into and out of doing this about 5 times as I'm reading up on cold water effects in the body.

Obviously, I'm in...

Addendum: Length of time will be the real challenge, not just getting in the water. I cannot attest to how long I will submerge the first time.

Addendum II: I've barked enough about working out in cold, which is good for you and it truly burns more fat. With regards to the "cold water challenge," I will partake, probably more than once. This weekend's upcoming possibility of sleet and snow, and obviously 20s-degree temps will probably keep me from trying it until next week, but who knows...

I barked about it, therefore I will do it! I have to!!!

Forgive me for any video you might see! Doh! IN65

I'm gonna do it tonight while my cahoneys are big enough. Go big or go home! I've already been rehearsing my reaction words after I can breathe again. Goes something like this, "AH, SON OF A.....". You get the idea.

As stated, here's what's at stake...

1. Challenge I--taking a plunge outside in cold water, hence, a Texas version of the Polar Plunge.
2. Challenge II--how long will you actually stay in the water? (swimming and moving will feel better, trust me)
3. Challenge III--will you ask someone to video for you, know that you will get yelled at by someone who might care about you enough to call you an "idiot"?

I'll get Kim to do it at our neighborhood pool across the street.
I won't ask my parents to since I don't want to be scolded.

I can't do it tonight because we have a Stars game and need to leave early, so maybe tomorrow. I might even do a challenge this weekend when it's colder! Doh! Idiot!

...no wisdom, just wis-dumb!

I just got back from the Stars game, and the wind blowing on us fully clothed was freakin' cold while waiting for the train!

The water will be something else I'm sure...in fact, I already know.

Mr. lakeforkfisherman, video 1 was very amusing. Video 2 was a success! Great job. I'll try to beat that time of :04 seconds, but who knows! Once I'm in, I'll do my best...

I hope nobody was watching you. They will be calling the mental hospital staff, carrying restraints, to come get you. First thing they will fit you with a padded helmet!

Good try, anyways, but I never seen a swimming stroke haha....

Duck hunting for many years, I know! Took many a spills!

That's why people drown when they fall out of a boat in winter (gulp)....not to mention swimming with layers of clothes on.

I'd surmise 54, 44 or 34, it's all going to feel like needles when I/you/whoever takes the challenge, getting in the water.

Kim is looking forward to seeing this!

I am done, but I need to load and edit the video. The photo is of me in the back just before I stepped in, and I swam up to Kim.

I'd say the water was close to 45 degrees thereabouts, and it was harder than I thought it would be.

I've sat in ice baths, fully submerged, and I could stay 10-15 minutes. This was roughly 5 years ago, but this hurt more, and I was swimming, and full of food. I lasted about 17 seconds swimming from one end to the other, then I stepped out. Wow, it was cold!

I think I may do it again in a couple days to beat my own time. As I said, I'll get the video up later today or tomorrow.

* Who is up next? *

Here's a brief, quick snippet, all of about 15-17 seconds submerged.
I had just eaten a big, big meal, I was so full, and the water was pretty dang cold.

The temp outside was mid 30s, water about 42, and I know neither is super cold, but it hurt overall. We are talking about "Texas" cold, not "Minnesota" cold after all.

I've sat in cold-ice baths before, but I let myself acclimate, and I could stay in for 10-15 minutes, but that was motionless. I figured moving/swimming would help, but I was wrong. I swam immediately, and the ice water hurt my muscles, actually felt like I was burning, and I started losing breath and felt it in my chest at about 10 seconds. Once out of the pool, I still hurt/burned for at least 30 minutes. Swimming, this time, hurt more, but I will try it again, and beat that measly time of 17 seconds.

Dang I felt and looked bad, which is all the motivation I need to do better. I'm in decent shape now, but 2 weeks from now will be much better. Even 1 week will help!

Who is next?????????????

...no wisdom

I found the old topic...

I'm heading to Green Bay Wisconsin tomorrow morning to visit family.

My sister's back yard is actually Green Bay...

I'm kicking the idea of a plunge around.

It's supposed to be 28 degrees tomorrow. I'll be there until the day after Thanksgiving!

Man, that looks cold just through the pictures. I have zero desire to jump into any kind of cold water.

That's also a cool looking place, they catch any fish there off the bank?

The water is only about 2 feet deep from shore out a couple hundred feet, then there is the dropoff into the bay to Lake Michigan.

My brother-in-law is a hunter, but I haven't heard him mention fishing much. I'd surmise there are fish there at times, but I do not know if he's ever fished from his back yard. I'll ask now...

Now this would be a polar plunge in Green Bay.
