I really need to make this trip! How are the winter time crowds there?
Also, you and I have VERY different definitions of "shack"!

Encouraging report. One of these days I'm going to get the hang of this place and have a big day. I was up there last week for 2 days. Fished the lower part of the Spillway and the area by the camp grounds and only caught a few. Talked to a number of guys asking for suggestions and they all reported...no/not much luck either.

Froghunter- it's like anywhere else. Gin on a. Tuesday and Wednesday and you own the place. Go on a nice weather Saturday and your apt to stand an the bank, watching everyone else fish because there aren't any open pools. If your up for it go when the weather is bad an you'll usually have the place to yourself. Oh, and this isn't my kind of fishing shack - it's the one I have to have to get my wife to Zip-ur-fly - as Robert stated earlier, this place has a funny swing to it. I fished Monday and caught twenty, no problem. Then Tuesday I caught five and had to work for it.

My wife wanted fish for lunch today so I fished the in the park, below the old upper foot bridge. I went with an olive bead head wooly bugger under a strike indicater in the fast runs. The fish seemed to be much more aggressive than the last two days and I had lunch by 9:00.

I feel so sorry for you having to rough it like that.
Acorn campsite?
I could not believe how crowded it was Thursday. I knew the bite would be slow as fast as the barometric pressure was rising

Turf Dawg - yes sir, I was shocked we got a campsite in Acorn that was riverside.
Glitchmo - we are packing up and heading home this morning so I didn't fish but it looks to be a promising day weather wise. You may have a lot off company though. Good luck.

Yeah...
I was kinda hoping for rain, actually, to help with that. Oh well. Taking a walk usually helps with crowds.

At least it looks like it could rain, maybe keep some rookies at home. And, your right Gitchmo, a lot of people won't walk very far. Keep us posted on how you do. I'm curious how things go with the barometer having dropped.
Thank you Texan. When I get home I'll have to download my Nikon and post some duck pictures I got on the river. I got some great shots if anybody is interested.

They have some diving ducks there on the river that are very pretty. you don't see them in our part of the flyway down here. I'd like to get a different type of shot at ☺️

Those are great shots Capt. Mac! Can honestly say, I have never seen a duck like that in Texas.
