Got my first Old Smokey #22 recently. I haven't even seasoned it as yet!! Been looking for some nice accessories but their is not much out there to offer. My main concern now is the placement of the 2"thermometer . After a little research (pics), I have seen the thermometer placed in two different locations.....#1 at meat level just left of the OS Insignia in the top half section and #2... placed on top of the cooker.
So, you Pro Old Smokey #22 users, chime in bc I'm getting my thermometer tomorrow....oak is soaking...it's getting warm out and I wanna cook something.

I use idevices. You can put one probe in the meat and the other in the pit. Its capable of using four probes. It syncs with your smart phone.

I dont have an Old Smokey but use this set on my smoker...measures the internal smoker temp and a probe for the meat...monitor it remotely...the dial type thermometers use a bimetal coil that most sites report as inaccurate by as much as 50 degrees...I have one (dail thermometer) on my smoker and it isnt very reliable...very happy with the set below have had it for the last 8 years with no issues.

I was reading about the use of the dial type and where it's placed. If a dial type is placed in the top part of the cooker, it will give a reading of about 50*F difference from where the meat is. I see why one of the dial types is placed on the side of the "Lid" a few inches above the grate/grill. Makes sense.
