Looking for any insight from others who have marshaled before. I have signed up to marshal for the first time this year and would like to be prepared.
Other than the rules, I have already familiarized myself with them, what else does a person need to know?
Thanks,

Them boys be driven the poo out their boats! It was a classic, get in, sit down, shut up and hold on. I rode with Duckett, Clausen, and Kreit.
Some will talk, at times you could tell they were really focused on what they were doing.
I marshaled on Toledo last year, I had a blast, signed up again this year.

Were you selected to be a marshal for Toledo? I'm on a 'wait list' and was wondering.

Not at this time, we are all on the waiting list. I was told that because I am a life member of BASS and took advantage of the early registration that I should have no problem getting in.

Try to pack light with one small carry on bag. Bring ONLY what you absolutely need. Check the weather often to make sure if you really need to bring rain gear. They say that there will be a compartment available to put your stuff in, but don't expect it to happen. Bring snacks that don't need to be on ice and a couple of bottles of water. Many of the pros put no extra weight (ICE) in their boat. Discuss this with your pro the night before when he calls you and offer to bring ice. Get yourself a standby battery to charge your phone. You will be running bass track and sending photos to the blog which can take a toll on your cell battery. If you plan on wearing an inflatable vest, ask your pro if he has a standard chest type in the boat so you are not illegal ( might want to take one of your own just in case, or just use it instead of an inflatable). Get to the ramp early and be ready to help your pro launch. Some may want you to back them in, and some may want you to handle the boat. Most of these guys are great and will be happy to talk and don't mind you asking questions and sharing their knowledge. You will know pretty quick what you have ahead of you when you meet your pro. Find the handles in the boat before take off and get ready to hang on for the ride of your life! I marshaled at Toledo last year for Montgomery, Schultz, and Ike. Boat lanes were optional (IKE) and knowing what was under the boat in some areas was not comforting. If you are on the waiting list, but registered early you probably will get the letter / e-mail about 3 months out that you are in. Make reservations for a hotel NOW. You will have to be there the day before the first day for the marshals meeting and the pairings banquet. You can always cancel them if you don't get in. Good luck guys! You will have the time of your life and learn a lot. Prepare to be sore for a few days after, it can be a real beating on your body.

I would say nwest10 really covered it well. Pay attention to the boat ride part because they will not slow down for anything! Great experience.
