May not be the right section, but does anybody have an idea on the price and best way to ship? I've been asked this a couple of times lately and was just wondering. Thx.

Wrapped then placed in pvc. Never had a rod broken that way.

Last time I sent some was like $20 at Fed ex. In a PVC tube or cardboard rod tube.

Agree on method, PVC or cardboard tube. I save mine when I order rods online. FedEx has been running about $26-30 for me. USPS is just a bit cheaper usually. That said, I have had two cardboard tubes show up to there destination with the top broke off with USPS! Amazingly the rods were ok in both cases.

I have an account with zip it mail center under my phone #. They give you several options related to time, weight, and length usually $20 to $30. One of the options is USPS. So much easier then actually dealing with a post office.

Cardboard tube is a good choice!
Why so complicated?

Like mentioned above. I usually have 2-5 tubes in my garage from rods I purchased. I save them all for shipping other rods. FedEx was $8-15 higher for me. I take mine to the UPS center here in Palestine and ship. Anywhere from $15-$30 depending on area. Coach

I work at UPS. $20-$30. PVC tube only. Wrap the rod in bubble wrap and secure to one end to keep from sliding. Tape the end caps on very well. Do not use cardboard tubes! They can bend or crush.

I have several cardboard tubes from Tackle Wharehouse that I'd like to get rid of if anyone wants them. I'm north of Houston in Magnolia. They are very heavy duty for shipping.

I shipped a 7'5" rod to NY today, pvc length was 90 inches, with 400 insurance, cost was $16.45 usps priority. I wrapped the rod in bubble wrap and cut foam, very secure, if you need any tubes, I have some to spare.

Good topic, and timely. Headed to San Diego, and was thinking about hitting up Dixon Lake from the bank. I had a rod tube from Tackle Warehouse, but I didn't think about keeping it. Will look around for something I can use. Flying Southwest, so they'll take it (up to 91" X 3").
