Hey guys, starting to get interested in crappie fishing. Bass and walleye fished my whole life. What are some must have baits and colors for crappie? thanks in advance.

Anything with chartreuse. Red/Chartreuse, black and charteuse, white with chatreuse tail, solid chartreuse, chartreuse with gold or silver metal flake, you get the picture.

Anything with chartreuse will get you bit in most lakes.
I get most of my baits from 2 companies... Slab Bandits from Crazy Angler, and the Fry line of baits from Todd and Belinda at Thermocline Lures.

True enough, chartreuse would be a good color to start with but eventually you'll have every color, size and shape that Academy has on their shelves. Then you'll get into hand ties.
To whom much is given, much is required.

For me at Bardwell, it's been salt & pepper and Cajun Cricket. Last year it was 1/8 oz. white jig head with salt & pepper. This year it's been 1/16 oz. jig head with Cajun Cricket color. Chartreuse has not worked for me at Bardwell, but that might be because when I find something that works it's hard to switch just to try something new.

The hook size and weight does not have any thing to do with other. The size jig you want use the hook that will fit and hole the jig. The weight is for what you like, for the type fishing you do. Same with plastics, first pick out the jig and use a hook that fits that jig. May sound hard to learn but a couple hours on the lake and you will learn. The best jig over the last 50 plus years has been a yellow tail with black body. but now seems like a chart. tail and purple body works just as good.

My favorite jig is the one I have on my rod. Jig fishing is all about confidence. I feel like I can catch a crappie with any jig color and that is because I know how to present it to the fish. With that being said, anything will work but I tend to use jigs with some sort of chartreuse in it.

Wow fishin'. Sounds like you get your limit everytime you fish. Can you share this technique?

I only wish I limit every time I go but that is definitely not the case. By my technique, I mean how I jig (how much to move the rod and how much movement works most of the time) through years of trial and error.

I wasn't hinting that you were cocky. Sounded like you had good techniques, that's all....

I let the fish pick my favorite color. I believe that scent and presentation matters more than color.
Like it has been said many times before on here, "Color doesn't matter until it does."
