I just bought my first boat and I'm looking for a good unit to put on it. My question is what is a good unit with side imaging for around 800? Open to diffrent brands as long as it has side imaging because I mostly fish for catfish. Thanks
lets go fishin!!

I've been eyeballing the Lowrance Elite 7 Ti. Sharp looking, sizeable enough screen, touch screen....should fit the bill for what you're looking for.

I have had Birds and Lowrance and have Lowrance HDS Gen3 touch now. My preference is the Bird. More bang for the buck and much more user friendly. Both are good but the Bird is better all around.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Thanks everyone for the help I'm gonna go ahead and get the Helix. One last question do I need to get a different transducer than the one it comes with? Just make sure it has the HD (high definition) side image transducer. I haven't looked at them in a while but I seem to recall that some of the smaller units (7" and under maybe) had the compact side image transducer. There is a significant image quality difference between the compact and the HD transducer.

Helix 7 Si price has come way down because of what is missing compared to Helix 9. $340 difference...... http://www.thedigitaloasis.com/Humminbir...JQ#.V_avKYY8JR4I had a 859 HD Di I sold to get Helix 7 Si to have Side Imaging. Even in 2D sonar pic was better on the 859 and mapping is much slower to load on Helix 7 vs the 859.....

The 9 and 10 are same physical size, 10 has bigger screen. 10 comes with HDSI transducer. Try to get the 10 if you can.

I dont think i would ever buy a graph off Craigslist. You might get a deal. But you could also get burned. For the money he is wanting to spend. Go with the Biggest you can find a deal on.
