With the help of a couple of friends we put a dent in the crappie population this weekend at my pond. We also caught one of the biggest/fattest green sunfish I have ever seen.

Question.......do crappie from a pond taste different than those taken out of a lake? I haven't noticed it but a friend of mine claims he can tell the difference.

If their forage is something other than what a lake crappie eats then I could see them tasting different. Otherwise I don't know why they would. It's not a muddy pond is it? You must have a heck of a pond to grow these good crappie. thumb

I've never noticed a difference myself. Very nice haul! I see a white crappie in there, get those out! Black crappie are good in ponds but the white crappie can and will take over. Those pond fish will get big and fat if you keep populations in check.
