Not too far from you in and around Crosby. The SanJac fresh water canal. I've caught cats, bass and white bass. Not the easiest fishing but they are there.

I fish, somewhat regularly, at the lake livingston dam. Less than 1.5hrs from you. When there is flow (like now), but not too much, white bass fishing can be great. I've easily caught a limit of whites in less than a hour and a half without getting my feet wet... though a lot of people wade fish at lower flow rates.
