Well, it's nearly time for my yearly trip to LBJ. We've had pretty good luck over the past 3 years, but I think it's time for some change. We usually hit up the docks pretty hard, goin in and out of those coves. Was lookin to see if anyone had any other suggestions for pretty good spots. We'll be there in mid march and goin after largemouth, if that helps any. I usually just finesse the worm and use spinner and buzz baits some. My buddy is all about the rooster tail and rattle traps. Any strategies, lures, tactics that might help us out a bit on the LBJ? Thanks for the info.

Yep, it's around kingsland, marble falls, granite shoals area. We fish at kingsland, around the intersection of the llano and colorado rivers. We've caught some pretty decent fish there, up to 11 lbs. Once caught back to back 9 and 10 pounders in consecutive casts. Yep, got that area marked on GPS.

I've been fishing LBJ for years. One of my favorite spots is Chevy Cove. From the intersection of the Llano and Colorado, go down LBJ for about a mile to a mile and a half. Chevy Cove will be on your left (of course...not much on the right side), and there should be a small sign sticking out of the water with the name. Go all the way back (careful, some shallow water) and go under the railroad bridge, where the back of the cove is. Throw yellow or chartreuse double-blade Strike King spinnerbaits early in the morning, and later try Blue Fleck Power Worms, Texas Rigged.

There is also another cove very close to that intersection of the Colorado and Llano, called Kingsland Cove. From the intersection, its almost immediately on your left going down the lake. Go under the railroad bridge there...which is right where LBJ Marineland is. (boat dealer there in town) Then, go under the low bridge, and fish the cove with spinners and plastics, and maybe a Bomber Model A FireTiger. Usually a keeper or two in the reeds near the entrance, and lots of smaller ones on the rocks just off of a lot of the docks.

One other spot, and often my first to fish in the morning, is on LBJ, in between those first two spots. Almost directly across from the big hill with the lookout on the highway, there is a rocky point that sticks out from a small inlet (not quite a cove, per se) I've caught smallmouth on that point, and several nice largemouth around the stumps to the left that point.

Good luck!!!

Oh, and if you're looking for crappie, you CANNOT go wrong at the Llano bridge. If you're headed up-river, I think its the 6th pylon from the left...whichever one has the cable wrapped around both pylons. Tie up there, and fish between 8 and 12 feet in warm weather. Use medium sized bass minnows. Good luck!

HAHAHAHA! Hey Brooks, I know exactly where those spots are, we fish those every day we are down there. My buddie's uncle lives there and thinks those are some of his "secret" spots....gonna be funny to bust his bubble! Another spot we found last year is where the colorado and llano come together, pretty much across from the Lion's Club boat ramp....pulled a 8 and a 11 lb largemouth out of that spot in consecutive casts on black 6" worms texas rigged. It was pretty amazing to have two huge fish on the line at the same time......too bad it was my friends uncle and my friends dad....sad just to sit there and watch, but great moment nonetheless.
