1995 Mercury XRi 2.5 Liter 200hp..........Crank engine and tach appears very low in the 300 range. As RPM's rise so does the tach til at about half trottle (just on plane good) the Tach has pegged out at 9000. My plan is to clean connections on rear of Tach and inspect wires for obvious issues. Can anyone tell me how to test grey wire for correct voltage or Resistance? Two new rectifiers/regulators put on last summer. System is charging batteries correctly.
Thanks

You need to reset the poles on the tach.
The black rotating switch. Many times all one has to do is turn right, then back, then turn left, then back to get connection again.

FYI, a rectifier going bad or already bad will cause the tach to go crazy or not work at all. Take a look at the rectifier to see if its ever over heated. You will see black tar like stuff running down the outside and maybe some overheated wires that connect to it.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!
