Wife came out to Cypress Springs with Blake and I to fish. She loves throwing the shaky head, so I set her up with one on my ML spinning Rod. She took a plum worm and dipped it in chart and red dip dye to make some sort of custom creation! lol ! It worked, obviously. I had casted the jig many times in the same area. She catches a 5lb 2oz sow! It is her new PB! Although, my 6 year old son kept reminding her he caught a 6-2 already. These past couple months have been "off" out there! Caught a 4lber and half its tail fell off in the boat! Lots of the fish look sick. I think the Franklin county water district has just about ruined the water quality on Cypress! Sad!! The water used to be beautiful!

Nice fish Ronnie! I've noticed the same thing with the fish the last year or so. Lots of oddly colored (yellowish) fish. And for some reason some of them even have an odd smell to them. I didn't have the house out there during the days when the grass was everywhere so can't compare but I can tell you when compared to what the fish look like on Monti, it's night and day. The crappie numbers are also WAY down in the last 2 years out there. The good news it at least TPWD is trying to help. We got 70,000+ Florida finglerlings in 2015 and they added a large group of man made brush piles this year. That doesn't come close to comparing to grass in the lake but it's better than nothing. Lots of good detail on the lake condition in this: http://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/pwdpubs/media/lake_survey/pwd_rp_t3200_1282_2014.pdf

Maybe they should stock more to help the bass populations. Didnt know they stocked more Grass Carp in 2006, i do remember having the hydrilla again for a couple years and then it disappearing quickly

Great guy and really cares about a healthy lake for fishing. That second group of carp were added because the FCWD requested they be added because the grass wasn't being killed off fast enough. This was before the state realized just how effective they were at not controlling but completely eradicating pretty much any and all vegetation. I'm just hoping since many of those carp have already died with more due to die soon, we may start seeing some grass again. This time, I think they plan to control it with spot chemical treatment vs more carp.
