Do it. Just use some electrical tape over the mono to prevent any unrecoverable birdsnests

i mean i could do mono to mono.. im not sure it would make that big a difference.. basically setting up a drop shot rig... and while I could surely load the entire reel with 6lb, it would just take who knows how many yards

I certainly considered backing it with braided line... that might be a good idea, about 75 yards of flouro over braid.

Just as a reminder, go to a retailer like Tackle Warehouse and look at the line capacity specs for any well known reel. The stats almost always refer to how much generic monofilament line can be handled.
So, for example, a Shimano CI4+ 4000 series will hold 240 yds of 8 lbs., 200 yds of 10 lbs. and 160 yds of 12 lbs.
This will help you understand line capacities better since the diameter of a line and its capacity for a given reel are not linear.
And, there is a formula (I have it somewhere) for determining how much a reel of a certain size (beginning empty circumference and the reel's side depth are inputs) can hold of rope or line or cable of a certain diameter.
*** I just use a mono backer, reel on quite a lot, then braid of a total length 20 or so yards beyond my longest cast, then a short fluoro leader when it is called for. Braid will "cut" into the fluoro in most common junction knots . . . though there are a few videos showing the supposed "expert" wrapping the fluoro around the braid in an Albright Knot. Not good . . . as it slips apart much easier as the fluoro cannot cut into underlying braid.

In my humble opinion the only way to fish spinning set up is with 20-30 pound braid and a fluro leader, I have not changed line in 6 years and have had not one birds nest.
