Hit my favorite sunfish pond in Las Colinas earlier this week and despite very muddy water, got a mixed bag of sunfish, largemouth and bullhead. All told caught about 40 in less than two hours, but just a whole lot of dinks! Baits of choice were the tricolor tube jig, red head, green body, and chartreuse tail, and black/chartreuse, and tricolor red head, blue body and chartreuse tail. All impaled on 1/32nd oz unpainted jig heads, on UL gear, fished with no bobber or extra weight, just cast ans S-L-O-W, but steady retrieve. I did not deem any of them worthy of visiting my kitchen stove. All still swim in the waters where they were caught. Still a lot of fun though. Rudy

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. With the exception of the catfish, I would think all of the other fish would be fine table fare. Just my opinion.

That second picture is an awesome fish! Looks like a Longear/Green hybrid. The rest are cool too! Great post!

I have caught a few black bullheads, but still need to catch a yellow. They may be a trash fish to most people, but they sure are colorful.

I don't complain when i hook one, back when i was a kid, used to catch bucketfulls of them in 5 mile creek. I would bring them home, my dad would clean and skin em, and we would eat them. Coming from a clear water(back then), free running stream, i remember them being rather tasty. But more recently, my cousin caught a few in a local urban creek, good sized ones, took them home to cook, and as she was frying them up, a strong gasoline like smell started coming out of the frying pan! She cooled them down and took them straight to the trash. The family had long john silver that night! Ever since then, I don't keep em. I caught one a few years ago, i think it was a black bullhead, that went 3.29 lbs on a digital hand held scale. I have NEVER seen one close to that big before or since. It was caught in a private, clear water, hydrilla laden pond. I DID NOT keep it.

Yeah, I don't have any plans on eating them, I just want to catch one since I think they look cool. The smallish black bullheads I catch in local ponds fight like crazy for their size, so I can't imagine what one over 3 pounds would feel like.

Went around 8 this morning, quit about 9:30. Caught about 30 or so greenies and long ears. Two bass, both dinks. Chartreuse/black, and chartreuse/red hollow body tubes on 1/32nd oz UNPAINTED jig heads, UL gear. Invited 4 of them to lunch at my house, could have invited many more. I assure you they are well on their way to being seasoned, battered, and fried. The salad with garden fresh husky cherry tomatoes will accompany them quite well. Rudy
