How many of you would be up for a Team event where we bring 50 sandies per team to weigh in and a cash prize is awarded for the heaviest stringer and the biggest fish? I am gathering info right now to see what the interest may be. We would need a set of scales that would handle 100 pounds or more since some of those things are exceeding two pounds. I am talking to a couple of the marinas waiting to hear back from them to see who might be interested in hosting the event.
It would accomplish several things:
First, it would take a bunch of those shad-eaters out of the lake thereby helping the black bass. I know realistically we can never rid the lake of them but for every sandbass you remove, it would save a bunch of shad for the black bass.
Second, it would help some folks out that might be less fortunate with dinner or supper. The fish could be donated to those less fortunate or even cleaned for a fish fry after the event.
Third, it would be fun. Most anyone can catch sandies. Find a deep spot loaded with them (not hard to do) and drop a jigging spoon over the side.
Fourth, it could be financially beneficial to the winning anglers! It would be pretty easy to give away some pretty serious cash if a few folks would join in.
I would vote that we allow dead fish to be weighed due to the fact that it is so hard to keep them alive after they are caught. I would vote that we allow trailering. Even live bait to be allowed. Maybe have a 7 am to Noon event. That would keep us from having to be out in the hottest part of the day.
Wouldn't it be nice to be fishing for sand bass and catch a Giant Black Bass in the process?? So what do you say? Let's open this up for discussion.

Pretty interesting idea, 50/team would be tough to store unless we can put them on ice in coolers (since you said we could weigh dead ones). I would try to make it out and fish this

Sounds interesting. I would probably just put them on ice though. You can catch all kinds of fish while fishing for them. Took a friend fishing for them a couple of weeks ago and he got a bonus 20 pound bluecat.

I would fish this one as long as someone didn't get on here complaining that I got too close to them during the tournament. For instance, a team doesn't get the entire SRA Point, horse shoe ridge, or 515 West road bed to themselves just because they were there first. This should be a fun event with the intention of removing sand bass from the lake.
I agree dead fish should be kept on ice and weighed.
I would more than likely fish this one.

This has been kicked around for 2- 3 years now. I hope you can put it together and make it happen.
I would be in as well as all my buddies. Good Luck. If I can help let me know.
I know we need to get as many out of there as we can.
I do not know of a Trophy Bass Lake anywhere in the country that has large population of white bass, hybrids or stripers in it. They need to go !

I like it, the only tournament where I would wave someone over to a spot. Get them all.

As before mentioned... seek out beer sponsorship, have a band, and host at a marina with lots of rooms!

I think you would have to allow dead iced fish at weigh in. They die so fast in the heat.
As far as what to do with a bunch of fish, I really believe we could find a charitable organization that would take them, provided they were iced down and edible. I will speak to my friend at Lake Fork Baptist Chcurch to get his thoughts.
Let's keep talking about this. I'll post again after I get some more 411.
