I broke my only spinning reel a while back and have been searching everywhere for replacement parts that are no longer available.
I'm not really a spinning reel fan but I use one from time to time and was wanting some feedback on what would be a decent reel for the money and the sizes kinda confuse me too. I'm going to only be using it for drop shots and shakyheads so I'm guessing the 2000 size. Probably looking to stay in the 75-100 dollar range since it's not something I use alot.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

Pretty hard to beat a Pflueger President. It's a really nice smooth real with a decent drag. Cheers, George

Can anyone shed some light on the sizing? What's the best size for say skipping senkos and still be big enough to handle larger fish? I've been using a smaller Pflueger to practice with, but I'm not sure it's big enough to handle a big fish. I want to invest in a much better reel, but I don't want to buy something undersized.

I use spinning gear a lot and here is one thing you might consider when picking a reel- rod length- pairing a 6' rod with a 3000 series reel will leave it all "out of balance". I do like the mid range series of reels(usually 2000 size) with about anything.
as for reels themselves you can't go wrong with the Quantum PT series. They can be found online for less than $100. They(quantum) also have a Hellcat line that isn't bad either. Comes with titanium bail so if you set it down wrong it won't break.
if you wanted to have a full combo(for the same price range) I recommend the Pflueger Trion series from Bass Pro. They cost like $75 and some of the combos have been used for years(12 i think?) and they still run fine(cleaned em a time or two)! the 6'6" combo is prob my fav length and its a MH version. but they have a nice 6' Med action and a 7' Med action that works well too.

nwest- the reel's drag will prob slip on a smaller size reel(prob max of 10lbs drag) but what line you use matters more. I use 25lb braid with a 10lb flouro leader on a 6'3" Med action rod and quantum pt reel and the bass I've hooked over 5lbs I just maintain steady pressure and get them in just fine. I skip wacky rigged worms way back under docks and don't worry about it. my opinion anyways but I love that wacky rig!

I'm using one of the Pflugeger 6900 reels, but I'll have to look at it when I get home to see what size. I believe it's smallest one. Paired it up with a 6'6" Med action rod using 20 lb braid with a 8 lb flouro leader. It will skip a wacky rig a long way, but I just don't know how it's going to handle a good fish once I hook up. Been using a baitcaster for a long time to do this, but I can get so much more distance out of the spinning equipment it's time to switch.

I use a Shimano Sahara to skip wacky worms under docks and it works great.

flanative- I have a Sahara as well and it does work well! Found it on sale at Dick's a while back.
nwest- I like the sound of your setup! skipping where we do(and no I can't do it with a baitcaster very well at all either- usually use 1/32oz weighted mustad hook and trick worms) and using spinning gear we just have to understand our limitations and not horse fish out. my biggest fish so far using this setup was 5.5lbs and she wrapped me around a dock piling but I just maintained steady pressure and she eventually swam back out. Granted we can't just "pull" those fish out like we could with a flipping stick but they will come out.

Brad,
Go on Ebay, bet you can find a BPS carbonlite spinning reel. I have one and its slick. I do not use one very much but keep one in the boat.
You might find one on BBC in their classifieds too.
Thanks, Billy

Shimano Sahara FE In all honesty, the Shimano Sahara is one of the best on the market, and only $80. It performs like a much more expensive reel though! I've owned multiple Sahara's over the years and I've never had a single problem with one of them. They have really high quality components, a good drag system, smooth retrieve, and they're extremely durable. Can't go wrong with one of these, Brad.
