Despite CRMWD holding the lake to under 53,000 acre feet and not catching a tremendous amount of water she is fishing pretty good. We catch 1000 acre feet of water and CRMWD pumps it out, they have power lines and pumps in the lake bottom so they are not going to lose those apparently, hoping a frog strangler comes in and washes them all away personally.
On to fishing, last weekend flipping for Bass in flooded trees led to catching 2 bass and 20-30 Channel and Mud cats full of eggs, average 2-3 pounds occasionally hooking a 10-15 pounder. This weekend all the cats seem to have disappeared and the bass are finally back. Caught about 25 yesterday flipping open pockets in flood trees in 12-15 feet of water, only fished about 3 hours. Most bass between 12 & 16 inches and there is a lot of them. I am seeing hundreds of bass from fingerlings (that they just stocked) up to 6-8". There has been a couple of great spawns in the last couple of years, evidence is in the number of small fish cruising the shallows. The lake is loaded with shad, big mud minnow's and small perch so they are eating well, also noticed a lot of crawdads on the banks.
The bass are still mainly small but they are really stocky fish and build like a tank. Biggest I have caught is about 3.5#'s (didn't weigh it, just a good guess). Paint Creek and Wildcat creek is capable of launching a boat right now, as well as the ramp at the dam, but I would stay away from the dam to launch. Jet skiers are fairly convinced they own the lake, so beware its been so dry out here most of them have forgotten how to operate safely.

That's good to hear! Spence was a helluva striper lake when I was a kid. I hadn't heard anything about it in years and assumed it was dry.

Heard a rumor yesterday that they (CRMWD) are going to let Spence gain some water. I was told they are targeting 25%. With Ivie and Thomas up plus the Ward well field, CRMWD is better on their water position. Supposedly a pipeline they are waiting on will be finished this week that will allow Spence to rise.
Today it is up to over 53,000 acre feet. My source told me his info is straight from CRMWD, so we will see. TPWD has stocked over 100,000 Florida LMB, a few White Crappie, 60 Adult White bass and just over 80,000 blue cat fingerlings in the last 2 months.
I haven't heard the pumps run much this past week so here's hoping. Based on my running the lake, 25% is going to put a lot of structure and cover under water and it would be a pretty treacherous lake on the north end as many of the mesquites will only be 1'-2' under water, and they are really thick.
Bass fishing is still good on numbers with most fish in 14"-16" range. If you find one he has 10 buddies sitting there with him waiting to eat.
