If you plan on driving it until the wheels fall off "like I do", I would say Toyota/Chevy, then ford and dodge. Just my opinion, but I've got 309,000 on my Chevy right now and pulled the boat 5 hours to T-Bend last weekend with no problems. And that is still with the original trans fluid in it.

I'm actually finding a lot of Toyota Tundras with under 100k on the clock within my price range. Really wanting to go there but I'll have to do my due diligence and research. Similar priced Chevy's, Fords and Dodge I've noticed since I've been looking toady have had a tendency to have higher mileage........

I think the tundras are good pickups, just never could get far enough past the fuel mileage to buy one. They drink like I did in college, an expensive habit.

I know, not sure which is worse, a Hemi or a Toyota. With Chevy being a dog in stock form, it's hard to pick which evil I want to go with......Ford's are just pricey and they have always been expensive when I need to do work on them. That is my only caveat with them.

Know a few folks with Ford 5.0's that have been good trucks. Not great mileage but not bad. No issues.

The Toyota 5.7 isn't great on gas but pulls great. How much pulling will you be doing with the truck? My Tundra 4.7 pulls quite well although it won't accelerate with a load like the 5.7. But I still get 19-20 mpg when not towing. For extreme towing over 10,000 lbs I grab my 7.3L F450....

I've been in the smaller V-8 club before and it sucked (for me at least). I don't like knowing there was a bigger, more powerful option out there when I need the power. Not saying the 4.7 is a bad V-8 in the Tundra it just isn't the way I like to roll. Now given that the truck will spend most of its life towing since I will soon have a work can again, I will opt for the bigger V-8. If I have to tow that much I can always grab my dad's d-max and use that. But I'm really starting to like the Toyota more and more. Next step is to go someone a few of these trucks and see which one fits.

How many miles/year are you going to put on it?
Low miles/year, Tundra without a doubt. The most reliable of your options and the gas mileage won't hurt you due to the low miles.
High miles/year - you could make an argument for any of them. The GM 5.3 with AFM has been problematic. Ford ecoboost has been good, but has various minor issues. Hemi is a good motor, but you never know what's going to break on the dodge truck that will be a problem. Tundra gets bad mpg for driving a lot of miles.

I'd go with the 5.4 v8 in the ford, I picked up a 2005 fx4 in excellent condition with crew cab and a grill guard only 76k miles for much less than your budget. With a budget of $22k you can buy a very nice vehicle. The 5.4 has been good to me and with cooper tires on it, it will go pretty much anywhere I want.

Sell the boat, not like you can use it when you have 5 kids anyways.

Tundra. Problem is for that money you'll probably have to settle for one with around 100K miles. Ecoboost has throttle body problems. Look for a recall soon.

Wife isn't too keen on the Tundra but I'm working on her. She wants me to stick with what I know (for 1/2 ton trucks that is) and get a Chevy. They are out there but I've seen some with under 100k, hopefully I can find one when I'm ready to buy. But a truck with right around 100k on the clock doesn't scare me either as long as it has good service records on it and is in good condition.

First I've heard of it.
