Howdy everyone,
Ken here, I was a Striper guide for 5 years in New Mexico but decided to be closer to the grandkids. Loving the Texas life so far. I will be guiding on Lake Texoma, Tawakoni, and my son does fly-fishing trips at Broken Bow/Beaver's Bend and Texoma. He just graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries, so you could say he might be catching up to his old man's wit.
Catching striper this year definitely had its ups and downs (many, many downs). Patterns are finally emerging and I seem to have gotten the hang of things after some "above average" rain.
Limited out with 2 customers on whites. Caught roughly 90, threw back many small guys. Small stripers were in the mix with none being above 16 inches. Lost one big striper at boat(Rod tips up).By big I mean maybe 9-11 lbs.
Depth: All fish were caught in 10-15 feet of water.
Bait/Lure: Most fish came from a fat free shad bomber 10-12 ft. The rest came from 1/6 oz jigs with a pearl sassy shad with chartreuse tails and slabs made by ReAxtion Lures. (Thanks Joe, they worked great.)
Time: The bite was strong from 7-11 am and again from 3-6pm.
I will be going on a crappie/striper trip on Thursday and will keep the updates coming.
All the best and tight lines.
