My sons old wheels was an old 1993 F-f150 inline 6cyl. 300 cubic inch. I let him get started with this truck that I handed down to him-- but after years of driving, realized it was time for new redneck transportation for him. He works and is going to college, so we started looking and found this super clean 2007 f-150 extended cab with 100,000 miles. I looked it over and tried to find something wrong with it !!! But couldn't ! It has a 4.6 v-8 with a Trans. cooler. I researched the 4.6 in relation to my 5.4 liter Engine in my f-250 . I learned that the difference is in the piston stroke on the 4.6--- Its smaller so the engine block rides lower. This truck also has 4 wheel drive on the floor shift- not electronic. Had new tires - and drove like new ! - So we bought it for $30,000 !! Just kidding -- we dropped $10,000 on it . We pulled our Champion Bass Boat with it and was smooth ! Does anyone have any feedback on this truck ? So far so good with its performance.

If you decide to do a tune up yourself and change spark plugs, make sure you torque them to spec. Apparently the 4.6 likes to spit plugs out from vibration if they aren't perfect. I had to take mine in and have an insert installed because the rear passenger side decided to shoot out one day.

I had to take mine in and have an insert installed because the rear passenger side decided to shoot out one day. I had a 1997 4.6. First year for the "Mustang with a bed" design and it was one of the best Fords that I ever owned. I put 187k on it over 10 years and never had a plug problem or any others for that matter. Quite the opposite of the next one I bought that had a 5.4. Not sure if there were any changes between the 1997 and the 2007. I changed the plugs once at about 100k and just snugged them down.

Only complaints ive ever read about the 4.6 liter were lack of power and poor fuel mileage for a smaller motor.
Coming from a 300 straight six he should feel like it has plenty of power.

I've got an 07 with the 4.6. 160,000 miles and no issues or complaints. It's not a hot rod but has done everything I've asked.

4.6 does not have any spark plug issues that Im aware of and ive been in the Ford parts business for 13 years. The 5.4 on the other hand does.

The 4.6 liter was a good motor just didn't have a lot of power.
I know several that have a ton of miles on them

If I was to buy a 2007 Ford F150, I would much rather have the 4.6 than the 5.3 (3 valve)for the simple fact that the 5.3 has variable timing chain issues and spark plug removing issues! I think its a good buy!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Its a step up for my son who never complained while driving the old 1993. He's learned how to change oil- check belts - air filters etc. We bought the truck used from a dealer that had the carfax. The truck was a 1 owner truck but now we are wondering if the previous owner used a conventional oil or a Synthetic ? My Question now is- Does it hurt a vehicle that has been running on Synthetic to change it to a Conventional oil or the opposite? Thanks Again for the feedback. Rio

Shouldn't hurt anything to switch.

Get you some Ford Motorcraft oil from Wal Mart. Its a Syn Blend, so you'll be half way in between
